The Evangelical Connection

There is a strong sentiment in the Zionist bloc that evangelical Christians "may be crazy, but they're our friends".

You clearly have never heard them speak.

I was recently flipping through the TV and came across Zola Levitt, an evangelical missionary who lives in Dallas and takes people on tours of Greece and Israel. Zola went into a tirade about the current situation with the Palestinians commenting that "Israel can handle them". Then Iran would attack Israel "Israel could handle them too. If the entire Arab world attacked, Israel could handle them too. It would bring the war of Gog and MaGog."

Yes, they've got money. Yes, they want to bring that money to Israel. I like Israel and I like Israel having money, but not when the people giving the money don't want peace. They want Armageddon. Evangelical Christians are not people that we want to be in bed with. They want to convert us and want to bring about a war to which they will not fight in.

I hear you, but as I've heard other people say - when Armageddon comes, I'll worry about it.

the problem with anonymous's attitude is that it's not like these people are just sitting around waiting for Armageddon and us to convert; there are people out there actively working towards the incitement of a World War because they want it to be their Armageddon.

That's my opinion exactly.

Eh. Still not too worried.

Look, I'm as uncomfortable with it as anyone else, but when it comes down to it (and watch carefully; this is blasphemy) me-ayin yavo ezri, if not from them? The amount of money they send Israel--for such projects as Nefesh B'Nefesh, mind you--and the degree of clout they provide--particularly in the South--are going a long way towards guaranteeing Israel's present and future. And, in truth, while some of the things their leaders say make me shudder, they dare say the things that our more left-leaning friends never would -- and much of it is true.

Again, I'm not fully comfortable with it, but in a current cost/benefit analysis - it would not be in our collective interest to alienate them.

I'm not suggesting we should stop taking their money, Mr. Not-So-Anonymous. What I'm saying is that we should stop saying they are "good" for Israel.

I come from a Christian Zionist family(Reformed Baptist). It depends on the family. Many are Christians whose have ancestors who converted from Judaism ( or got chucked out for intermarriage etc) over the centuries but the current ones in power in US (I'm Australian) are NUTS! They usually have no Jewish blood, hate 'the Jews' and they are actively trying to bring on an Armageddon type situation. I left the church because I think they moving towards insanity. Unfortunately my opinion towards all religion was pretty negative for a long time (because I saw Jewish Fundamentalists in action with our church leaders too) but I'm finally coming to some sort of terms with it that these positions are just wrong. Obviously Israel needs our help in protecting herself from real enemies but not in fulfilling the dreams of those who wish to annihilate their neighbours and push all non-Jews out of Israel.
